Cal U hits century mark in win over D&E, 101-58

Suckling leads team with 22 points behind six treys; Vulcans score 39 points off turnovers

CALIFORNIA (Feb. 6) – Behind five players scoring in double-digits, the Vulcans eclipsed the century mark for the first time since the 2012-13 season on Saturday afternoon while cruising to a 101-58 victory against Davis & Elkins in non-conference play at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 16-5 overall behind a 10-1 mark at home. The Vulcans have now scored at least 100 points in a game nine times in the last decade, including four times during the 2008-09 campaign. Meanwhile, Davis & Elkins falls to 9-12 this season.

Freshman Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) scored a season-high 22 points while playing just 21 minutes off the bench. She made 8-of-13 attempts from the floor, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, and added three rebounds and two assists. Suckling became the first player to make six three-pointers in a game since Stephanie Michael accomplished the feat three times during the 2012-13 season.

Sophomore Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) posted 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting and tallied eight rebounds, two assists and three steals. Junior Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) recorded a double-double for the second-straight game after tallying 17 points and 11 assists, while also adding five steals. Senior Paige Wright (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) collected 12 points on four-of-seven from long range in the first half and sophomore Shatara Parsons (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) finished with a double-double of 11 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds (five offensive).

Cal U scored the opening 11 points of the game before D&E tallied its first basket at the 5:44-mark. The Vulcans then mounted a 12-3 run to stretch their lead to 23-5 on a layup by Barrett with 1:07 left in the first quarter. Cal U eventually held a 26-10 lead at the end of the quarter after shooting 11-of-19 from the floor, including four three-pointers by Wright.

The Senators scored the initial basket of the second quarter before the Vulcans countered with eight-unanswered points, including consecutive treys by Suckling, to take a 34-12 lead with 6:13 left before the break. The teams traded points before Cal U engineered a 12-0 run – making all five shots in a span of 2:20 – to take a 48-16 lead on a layup by freshman Abbey Sporio (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) with 3:06 remaining in the first half. The Vulcans later took a 53-22 lead at the break behind a .571 three-point percentage (8-of-14) and 21 points off turnovers in the first half.

D&E started the second half on an 8-2 run before Cal U countered with a 17-2 rally over four-plus minutes to stretch the lead to 72-30 on a jumper by junior Precious Martin (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), who finished with eight points and five rebounds, with 3:48 left in the third quarter. The Vulcans eventually took a 78-38 lead after a last-second basket in the quarter by Suckling.
