CALIFORNIA (Oct. 28) – The Vulcans recorded one of their top hitting performances of the year on Friday night while posting a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) over Lock Haven at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 17-6 overall behind a 9-3 mark in league action. Meanwhile, Lock Haven falls to 5-15 this season with a 4-8 record in conference play.
Sophomore
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) led the team with 12 kills and finished with a .500 hitting percentage. Junior
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) posted eight kills while hitting at a .308 clip and senior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tallied six kills. Sophomores
Tina Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and
Lois van Schaik (Naarden, Netherlands/St. Vituscollege) each added five kills in the victory. Senior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) guided the offense with 32 assists on Friday night.

Bayleana Sowers (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) both paced the team with 14 digs. Leto and fellow junior
Taylor Solo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) registered 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Hayes collected six service aces against the Bald Eagles.
The Vulcans held the lead for the entire first set and committed only two attacking errors in the set. Cal U opened the match on a 6-2 run before later rallying off five-unanswered points to stretch the lead to 11-3 on a third-straight service ace by Hayes. The Vulcans later posted a 6-1 run to take a 17-5 lead on a service ace by Solo before the teams traded the next six points. Cal U won four of five points to force set point at 24-10 before later finishing with a 25-12 win on a kill by Leto.
In the second set, Cal U registered an impressive .355 hitting percentage while totaling just one error on 31 attempts. The Vulcans raced out to a 7-2 lead on a kill by Bellhy before the teams traded the next 10 points. Cal U then collected five-straight points to stretch the lead to 17-7 on a kill by Barrett. The Vulcans later won four of five points to take a 21-10 lead on a ball handling error before the Bald Eagles mounted a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 22-15. Cal U responded by winning the next three points and earned a 25-15 victory following a service ace by Hayes.
The Vulcans featured a balanced offensive attack in the third set, as four players collected at least three kills. Lock Haven started the set on a 4-2 run before Cal U rallied off four-straight points to take a 6-4 lead, which forced a timeout by the Bald Eagles. Lock Haven then responded with a 7-4 run to take an 11-10 lead before Cal U won four-unanswered points to reclaim the lead at 14-11 on a kill by Hayes. The teams traded the next five points before the Vulcans won back-to-back points to take an 18-14 lead on a ball handling error. Lock Haven claimed three of four points before Cal U closed the match won the final six points of the match to the win set by a 25-17 count on a kill by Bellhy.
Cal U returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown in PSAC Crossover play at 2 p.m.
