BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Sept. 5) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered four-set losses to both Metropolitan State-Denver (Colo.) and McKendree (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon at the Ferris State Invitational.
The Vulcans opened play on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss (13-25, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25) against Metro State (1-2), who is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Freshman
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) led the team with 12 kills and sophomore
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) collected 10 kills, while senior
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) totaled seven kills on a .316 hitting percentage. Junior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) guided the offense with 18 assists and sophomore
Taylor Solo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) added eight assists in the loss.
Freshman
Bayleana Sowers (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) and Litoborski each paced the defensive effort with 11 digs, as Litoborski recorded another assist/dig double-double. Senior
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) and junior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) controlled the net with five and four blocks, respectively.
Cal U closed play in Michigan with a 3-1 loss (25-23, 15-25, 22-25, 22-25) against Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC)-member McKendree (3-1). Hayes totaled a team-high eight kills, while Fouzie and Leto both posted seven kills. Litoborski and Solo combined to direct the offense with 28 assists in the four-set loss on Saturday evening.
Litoborski led the team with 14 digs for her third assist/dig double-double of the weekend, while Sowers collected 12 digs. Sophomore
Emily Berry (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) and Solo both tallied nine digs and Leto registered eight digs.
Cal U returns to action this weekend when it hosts the third-annual Vulcan Invitational on Sept. 11-12 in both the Convocation Center and Hamer Hall.
