CALIFORNIA, Pa. (Sept. 26) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team completed Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play with two wins on Saturday at Hamer Hall with a 3-1 victory (25-15, 24-25, 25-18, 25-17) against West Chester and a 3-0 win (25-7, 25-16, 25-18) over Cheyney.
With the victories, the Vulcans have now won five of their last six matches to move to 6-8 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Against the Golden Rams (11-4), sophomore
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led the team with 10 kills and junior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and senior
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) both registered nine kills on hitting percentages over .400. Junior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and sophomore
Taylor Solo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led the offense with 24 and 17 assists, respectively.
Sophomore libero
Emily Berry (Beaver, Pa/Beaver) posted a team-high 13 digs and Leto tallied 12 digs. Litoborski finished one dig away from another assist/dig double-double after recording nine digs against West Chester. Hayes and Fouzie each posted six blocks to control the net.
Against the Wolves (1-9), freshman
Lois van Schaik (Naarden, Netherlands/St. Vitucollege) recorded a season-high 12 kills on a staggering .786 hitting percentage and classmate
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) posted 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Junior
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) guided the offense with 28 assists.
Defensively, senior libero
Ema Bobbitt (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) posted 10 digs and Scurpa was one dig short of an assist/dig double-double with nine digs. van Schaik registered four blocks in the sweep for the Vulcans.
Cal U returns to action on Friday, Oct. 2, when it opens PSAC West play against Mercyhurst in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 7 p.m.
