Vulcans fall to West Chester in OT, 1-0

Golden Rams score game-winner in 98th minute; teams register 31 shots during regulation

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 19) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team fell 1-0 in overtime at West Chester during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 3-3 overall with a 1-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams move to 2-3-1 this season and 1-2 in conference action.

The teams combined for 17 shots in the first half, including six on target, but neither team was able to score. The second half ended scoreless as well with 14 total shots and seven on goal. The game-winning goal was eventually scored during the first overtime period in the 98th minute when Alex Lean collected a rebound off the goalkeeper and scored with an assist from Miguel Ross.

Freshman goalkeeper Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) registered 10 saves in his first collegiate start.

West Chester out-shot Cal U by a 21-16 margin and also held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans finish their four-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Bloomsburg at 3:30 p.m.
