CALIFORNIA (Oct. 3) - For the fifth-consecutive game, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team was held scoreless after suffering a 2-0 loss to Kutztown on Saturday afternnon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 4-5-2 overall with a 4-4-2 mark in conference play, and have now lost four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears improve to 5-3-1 this season with a 5-3-0 record in league action.
Neither team was able to score in the first half of the contest despite a combined nine shots with six on target. In the second half, the game remained scoreless until the 88th minute when Kutztown took advantage of its third corner kick in a four-minute span and Morgan Staley headed in her first goal of the season off the foot of Brooke May. Just 29 seconds later at the 87:35-mark, Alyssa Ryan took possession on a breakaway and scored her third goal of the year in the bottom left corner of the net. Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) registered six saves and now has tallied at least five saves in six-straight games.
The Golden Bears held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks, while both teams posted nine shots.
The Vulcans return to action Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host IUP at 4:30 p.m.
