Scenna, Greenstein record their first career goals; Vulcans match season high with 21 shots

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned its first victory in three weeks on Saturday afternoon after claiming a 2-0 victory at Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 5-5-3 overall behind a 5-4-3 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Marauders fall to 4-7 this season with every game in conference action.

Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when sophomore Francesca Scenna (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored her first career goal on a header following a corner kick by junior Danielle Kearns (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes). Following halftime, the Vulcans added an insurance goal at the 56:03-mark when freshman Aly Greenstein (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) beat the goalie with a shot to the bottom right corner.

Junior goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) established a career high with nine saves while registering her fifth shutout of the year.

The Vulcans finished with a 21-17 advantage in shots, which matched their season high, while the Marauders held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when it travels to face Mercyhurst in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 3:30 p.m.
