Box ScoreCLARION, Pa. (Sept. 20) – The Vulcans earned their second-straight shutout with a 2-0 victory at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 4-1-1 overall behind a 4-1 mark in league play. The Vulcans have now allowed only one goal in their last 390-plus minutes of action, a streak which spans over five games. Meanwhile, Clarion falls to 2-4 this year with all six games against conference opponents.
Senior
Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) started the scoring in the 13th minute when she scored off a feed from classmate
Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford). The Vulcans added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when freshman
Kaeli Tuinstra (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) scored her first career goal off assists from fellow freshman
Francesca Scenna (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Crockett.
Crockett finished the game with two assists and has now recorded at least one point in four of six games this season. A two-time All-PSAC First-Team selection, she leads the team with nine points this season behind three goals and three assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) registered her third shutout of the year, and eighth career, after tallying two saves. Clarion goalkeeper Laura Saussol made nine saves in the losing effort.
Cal U out-shot Clarion by a 26-6 margin after limiting the Golden Eagles to just three shots in each half. The Vulcans also held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to face Kutztown at 3 p.m.
