Djordje Babic (Datteln, Germany/Comenius Gymnasium) scored his first career goal on Saturday afternoon, as the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-3-1 and 0-1-0 in league play. Meanwhile, The Rock improve to 3-2-0 and 1-0-0 in conference action.
Slippery Rock started the scoring when Peter Boylan found the back of the net in the eighth minute off a long pass from Stephen Donnelly. The Rock extended the lead to 2-0 before halftime when Josh Allman scored on a shot that deflected off the crossbar in the 37th minute. Slippery Rock added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute before Babic, who was playing his second career game, scored off a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box at the 75:15-mark.
Cal U out-shot Slippery Rock by a 19-6 margin with Babic leading the team with four shots attempts, including three on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded three saves in the loss. The Rock goalkeeper Steven Rerick earned the win after making six saves.
The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Shippensburg for a PSAC contest at 4 p.m.
