Cal U posts shutout against No. 16 IUP, 2-0

Box Score

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 16) – Behind two goals from senior Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford), the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over No. 16 IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility on Tuesday evening.

The Vulcans, who snapped a two-game scoreless streak, improved to 3-1-1 overall and 3-1 in league action. Meanwhile, IUP suffered its first loss of the season and drops to 4-1-1 this year with all six games against conference opponents.

Crockett tallied the fifth multi-goal game of her career and became the sixth player in school history to total at least 25 career goals. The New Hampshire native started the scoring in the 12th minute when she buried a feed from junior Kara Novotny (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) past the Crimson Hawk goalkeeper. Crockett later tallied an insurance goal off of a corner kick by senior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) at the 32:08-mark. Hogan is now only one assist shy of tying the all-time PSAC record of 47 assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) earned the seventh shutout of her career while recording three saves. IUP goalkeeper Jessica Prinz made five saves in the losing effort.

The Vulcans controlled much of the game and finished with a sizeable 24-7 shot advantage, including a 13-3 margin in the first half. Cal U also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks with a goal from Crockett off a Hogan corner.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when it travels to face Clarion at 12 p.m.
