Goodwin signs with Pittsburgh Steelers

CALIFORNIA (June 4) – Former California University of Pennsylvania wide receiver CJ Goodwin (Wheeling, W.Va./Linsly) was recently signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are currently in organized team activities.

Goodwin appeared in all 11 games at wide receiver and on special teams while playing his senior season with the Vulcans. He previously played one year at Fairmont State after playing just one year of high school football at Linsly in Wheeling, West Virginia.

As a senior, Goodwin finished the year with 131 yards and one touchdown on 11 receptions. He set season highs for catches and receiving yards at Millersville in the last game of the year, while scoring his touchdown against Kutztown. Goodwin also posted four tackles, blocked a punt and recorded one kickoff return while playing on special teams last fall.

Goodwin averaged over 16 yards per reception in his two-year college career, finishing with 571 receiving yards and five scores on 35 catches. As a junior at Farimont State, he ranked third on the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns while playing all 10 games.

Goodwin joins former defensive back Dewey McDonald (Ranson, W.Va./Jefferson), also a transfer from Fairmont State, as Vulcans who have signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents this year. McDonald was signed by the Indianapolis Colts following the NFL Draft in May.

Since 2010, Cal U has featured a pair of players selected in the NFL Draft and eight players on NFL active rosters, highlighted by five last year.
