Women's Soccer falls at No. 3 ESU, 1-0

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 1) – In its final game of the regular season, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 3 East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 11-3-4 overall and 10-3-3 in conference play. Cal U earned the fourth seed in next week's PSAC Tournament and will host rival Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Meanwhile, the Warriors improve to 17-1 overall behind a 15-1 mark in league play and earned the top seed in the league tournament.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Brielyn Hackett scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute off a cross from Lexie Peveraro that was touched just past goalkeeper Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg). The Vulcans nearly tied the score at the 75:23-mark when a shot attempt by senior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) hit the post before goalkeeper Jules Harris made a save in 78th minute on a shot by junior Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School).

Colon suffered the loss after making four saves in the second half after starter Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) tallied three saves before halftime on Saturday. Harris registered three saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season.

East Stroudsburg out-shot Cal U by a 14-8 margin, while the Vulcans held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans open play in the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday when they host Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals.
