Cal U posts tie at No. 13 West Chester, 1-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 31) – In the first of back-to-back road games this weekend against nationally-ranked opponents, the Vulcans posted a 1-1 double-overtime tie at No. 13 West Chester on Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the tie, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team moves to 11-2-4 overall behind a current 10-game unbeaten streak (7-0-3). The Vulcans, which were tabbed seventh in the latest NCAA Atlantic regional rankings, also now hold a 10-2-3 mark in league play with one game left in the regular season.

Meanwhile, the Golden Rams move to 14-1-1 this season behind a 13-1-1 record in conference action. West Chester entered play tied for first place in the league standings and was the top-ranked team in the NCAA regional rankings.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when senior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) scored off a corner kick, as the ball hit the far post and deflected into the net. West Chester countered at the 76:35-mark when Kara Parvel tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Cal U nearly answered in the closing minutes of regulation, as a shot attempt by Hogan in the 88th minute deflected off the post.

The teams posted a combined four shot attempts in the overtime periods with each team placing one attempt on goal.

Sophomore Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) finished with three saves, including a save less than two minutes into the first overtime on Friday. West Chester goalkeeper Alex Srolis registered four saves while playing all 110 minutes.

Cal U finished the game with a 14-6 shot advantage, including an 11-5 edge in regulation. The Vulcans also held a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Vulcans, who have already clinched a berth in next week's PSAC Tournament, close out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 1, when they travel to No. 3 and league-leading East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m.
