Cal U falls in final seconds, 1-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 18) – The Vulcans dropped a 1-0 decision to Bloomsburg after allowing an 'own goal' with three seconds left in regulation on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team falls to 4-8-1 overall and 3-4 in league action with four conferences games remaining. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg improves to 8-4-2 this season behind a 6-2 mark in PSAC play.

The two teams combined for just six shot attempts in a scoreless first half. In the closing seconds of regulation, senior goalkeeper Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) made a diving save on a shot attempt before a teammate tried to clear the ball from the box. However, the player was too deep in the box and the clear attempt went into the top left of the goal.

Donovan made a season-high seven saves in the losing effort. Bloomsburg goalkeeper Jared Ott earned the win while not facing a shot on goal.

The Huskies out-shot the Vulcans by a 12-6 margin and also held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 22, when it hosts Mercyhurst on Senior Day at 7 p.m.
