Cal U earns sweeps in crossover action

INDIANA, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Vulcans extended their winning streak to 11 matches with a pair of 3-0 wins over Kutztown and East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex on Saturday.

With the wins, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 18-5 overall and 11-2 in conference play. Cal U remains in a three-way tie for second place in the PSAC West standings and sits one match behind first-place Clarion. The Vulcans have compiled a combined 26-4 mark in PSAC Crossover play since the 2011 season.

Against Kutztown, freshman Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) recorded a match-high 13 kills while registering a .400 hitting percentage. Senior Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) totaled 12 kills and added 11 digs for her 10th kill/dig double-double of the season. Sophomore Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) dished out a match-high 36 assists while adding a team-high 14 digs.

Junior Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) collected 13 digs with Leto and senior Taylor Melidona (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) each adding nine digs. Junior Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) totaled four blocks in the victory.

Against East Stroudsburg, Miller posted another kill/dig double-double, totaling a match-high 13 kills and finishing with 13 digs. The trio of Leto, redshirt freshman Rachel Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Destiny Tucker (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) each recorded six kills. Litoborski directed the offense with 26 assists and collected nine digs. Melidona and Rudy totaled 10 and nine digs, respectively. Fouzie again finished with four blocks in the win.

Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 14, when it hosts Shepherd in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
