GREENVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 7) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team opened the Tusculum Kickoff Tournament with a 0-0 double-overtime tie against the host Pioneers on Saturday afternoon.

The Vulcans move to 0-1-1 overall after allowing two goals in a combined 200 minutes this season. Meanwhile, the game marked the season-opener for the Pioneers who posted a 12-3-3 record last year.

Cal U finished with a sizeable 17-4 shot advantage, including two in the double-overtime period.

In her first start of the year, junior goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) made one save to register her 10th career shutout. Tusculum junior Marissa Williams tallied nine saves in her initial action of the season.

With 16-plus minutes remaining in regulation, Williams made critical saves on a penalty kick by junior Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) and a rebound attempt by sophomore Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School). Both teams were unable to attempt a shot in the first-overtime period before Williams preserved the tie with a save on a close shot by junior Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) – last year's leading scorer – at the 102:19-mark.

The Vulcans resume play at the weekend tournament tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 8, when they face Saginaw Valley (Mich.) at 11 a.m.
