BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Sept. 7) – The Vulcans dropped a pair of matches Saturday, being swept by Washburn (Kan.) and Ashland (Ohio) on the second and final day of the Ferris State Invitational.
The losses drop the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team to 1-3 this season.
Cal U was defeated 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-20) by Washburn to begin the day. Senior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) led the team with seven kills and sophomore
Jeannie Catterton (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) added six kills in the loss.
Freshman
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) led Cal U with 12 assists in the morning match, while the defensive effort was headed by sophomore
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and freshman
Julie Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) who both finished with eight digs.
The Vulcans wrapped up the tournament with a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-10, 31-29) to Ashland.
Delaney once again led the Cal U attack with six kills in the loss. Freshman
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) finished the match with 11 assists and six digs, while Rudy led the defense with nine digs.
Cal U returns to action on Friday, Sept. 13, when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) at 12 p.m. in the Convocation Center in the opening match of a two-day invitational. The Vulcans will conclude the day with a match against LIU Post at 7 p.m.
