Box Score

PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 7) – The Vulcans were unable to counter from an early goal in the first period on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 contest at Chestnut Hill in non-conference play.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team drops to 1-1 this season. Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill moves to 1-1 overall after falling in its season-opener on Thursday.

The Griffins registered the game-winning goal at the 10:28-mark when junior Juan Amaya scored on a header following a pair of passes. Cal U nearly tied the game early in the second half when a shot attempt by sophomore Russell Tattersall (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) deflected off the crossbar.

Junior goalkeeper Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) collected one save on seven shot attempts in the loss. The Vulcans out-shot the Griffins by an 11-7 margin and posted a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal U continues its road trip on Wednesday, Sept. 11, when it travels to face District of Columbia at 3 p.m.
