Volleyball earns two wins in crossover play

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 28) – The Vulcan volleyball team claimed a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) wins over Millersville, 3-1, and Shippensburg, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
 
The victories improves California University of Pennsylvania to 4-0 in PSAC play, 10-3 overall, while extending its winning streak to nine matches.
 
After grinding through a marathon first set that went to Millersville, the Vulcans regrouped and claimed the next three sets in their 3-1 win (37-39, 25-13, 25-22, 25-18) over the Marauders.

Senior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) led Cal U with a team-high 21 kills and added 22 digs in the victory. Both sophomore Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) and junior Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) each totaled double-digit kills with 17 and 12, respectively. Miller also chipped in 14 digs.
 
Freshman Julie Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) registered a game-high 59 assists and tallied 12 digs, while the Vulcan defensive effort was led by sophomore Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) who registered 26 digs in the win.
 
Cal U fell in the opening set once again, but won three-straight sets in its 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-15) over Shippensburg.
 
Delaney, Miller, and Henderson all registered their second double-doubles of the day. Delaney had a team-high 18 kills and 12 digs, Miller posted 13 kills and 17 digs, and Henderson had a game-high 44 assists and 13 digs. Meanwhile, Rudy once again headed the defensive effort with 22 digs.
 
The Vulcans will host four games next week, beginning with a match on Tuesday, Oct. 1, against Fairmont State. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
