CALIFORNIA (Sept. 21) – Senior Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored a pair of goals on Saturday night, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory against Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 3-2-1 overall with a 3-1 mark in league action. Cal U has out-scored its opponents by a 9-1 margin over the last three games after posting just two goals in its opening three games this year. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots fall to 3-3 this season with a 1-3 record in conference play.

Following a scoreless first half, Cal U took a 1-0 lead less than 90 seconds into the second half when freshman Danielle Kearns (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) scored her first career goal off an assist from junior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver). The Vulcans added to their lead in the 50th minute when Russo tallied a goal off a feed from Hogan, marking the sixth multi-assist game of her career. Russo added an unassisted goal at the 63:09-mark, as Cal U took a 3-0 lead.

With her performance, Hogan moved passed Audrey Dawson (1994-97) for second place in school history with 29 career assists. She is now only one assist shy of becoming just the 11th player in league history with 30 assists in a career.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) recorded her second shutout of the season after finishing with one save on Saturday. An all-region selection in 2012, she has allowed just three goals in nearly 400 minutes this season.

The Vulcans out-shot the Fighting Scots by a 16-4 margin after attempting eight shots in each half. Cal U also held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks in the victory.

Cal U continues PSAC play on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when it hosts league-newcomer Pitt-Johnstown at 6 p.m.
