Volleyballs earns sweep at WV Wesleyan, 3-0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (Sept. 17) – The Vulcans won their fourth-consecutive match on Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) at West Virginia Wesleyan in non-conference play.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 5-3 overall with all five victories being decided in three games. Meanwhile, West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 2-6 this season after losing four of its last five matches.

Junior Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and senior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) led the attack for the Vulcans with 11 kills apiece, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the team's kills. A total of 10 different players recorded at least one kill in the victory.

Freshman Julie Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) registered 31 assists and added four service aces, while sophomore Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) led the defensive effort with 12 digs in the win. Classmate Taylor Melidona (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) added six digs, while the trio of Delaney, Henderson and Miller each accounted for five digs.

The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they travel to face Point Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., at 1 p.m.
