CALIFORNIA (Sept. 14) – The Vulcans closed play at their two-day, home tournament by collecting a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-23, 25-16) over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 4-3 this season after posting three victories this weekend. Meanwhile, D&E remains winless this year at 0-8 overall.
Junior
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led the team with eight kills on a .368 hitting percentage while playing only two sets. Senior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) added seven kills and three aces, while the duo of sophomore
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) and freshman
Abby Matusik (Mars, Pa./Mars) both collected five kills against the Senators. Freshman
Julie Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) posted 24 assists and classmate
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) added seven assists while directing the offense on Saturday.
Sophomore libero
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) paced the defense with 13 digs in two sets, finishing the weekend with a combined 43 digs. Delaney and Miller finished with 10 and seven digs, respectively, while three players finished with a pair of blocks.
Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when it travels to face West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W.Va., at 7 p.m.
