Men's Soccer earns shutout at A-B, 2-0

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (Sept. 14) – The Vulcans snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-0 win at Alderson-Broaddus in non-conference action.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 2-2 overall. Meanwhile, Alderson-Broaddus falls to 1-3 this season after being shutout for the second-straight game.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when junior Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) scored his second goal of the year, unassisted. Classmate Kevin Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) added an insurance goal off a feed from sophomore Lubos Kubik (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Roosevelt (Iowa)) at the 68:59-mark to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Junior goalkeeper Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded the shutout while facing five shots on Saturday. The Vulcans out-shot the Battlers by a 13-7 margin and held a dominant 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal U is idle for a week before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when it hosts Davis & Elkins at 3 p.m.
