WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 11) – Despite a late goal in the second half, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at District of Columbia on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-2 overall with both losses by one goal following a season-opening victory. Meanwhile, the Firebirds improve to 3-0 this season after out-scoring their opponents by a combined 11-2 margin.
UDC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute on a goal by freshman Felix Angerer from 18 yards out. The Firebirds expanded the lead at the 34:52-mark when senior Bakary Coulibaly scored off a cross from junior Byron Brown, 2-0. In the 77th minute, junior

Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) collected a season-high four saves in the losing effort. The Vulcans out-shot the Firebirds by an 11-10 margin, while UDC posted a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Cal U finishes its three-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 14, when it travels to face Alderson-Broaddus in Philippi, W.Va., at 2 p.m.
