Box Score

INDIANA, Pa. (Sept. 10) – Junior Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) registered her fourth career multi-goal game on Tuesday afternoon, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 1-2-1 overall with a 1-1 mark in league play. Cal U extended its unbeaten streak against IUP to 10 games, posting an 8-0-2 record since late in the 2008 season. Meanwhile, the Crimson Hawks fall to 2-1 this season after recording a pair of shutouts to open the year.

Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Henderson scored off a corner kick by classmate Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), who tied the single-season school record for assists in 2012. Early in the second half, the Crimson Hawks tied the game at 1-1 when junior Brittney Kuhns broke free in front of the net at the 50:26-mark. IUP nearly broke the tie in the 82nd minute when a shot attempt deflected off the post. Just under two minutes later, Henderson scored her sixth career game-winning goal following a long pass from the right side by sophomore Lauren Pezzica (Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley).

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) made a season-high four saves on 10 shots while playing all 90 minutes. Both teams attempted 10 shots on Tuesday, while the Vulcans held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action with a three-game homestand versus conference opponents, beginning Saturday, Sept. 14, against Clarion at 4 p.m.
