CALIFORNIA (Nov. 9) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 win (25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18) over visiting Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Convocation Center.
The Vulcans improve to 26-5 overall and 19-1 in the PSAC. The loss drops the Fighting Scots to 7-13 in conference play and 16-18 overall.
Three Vulcans registered double-digit kills including sophomore
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata), who finished with a match-best 17 kills and added three service aces. Senior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) and junior
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) both posted kill/dig double-doubles. Delaney tallied 13 kills and a team-best 16 digs, while Miller finished with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Senior
Abbey Freund (Cottege Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and freshman
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) guided the offense with 26 and 20 assists, respectively. Freund also added a season-best 11 digs in the win.
After dropping the second set, the Vulcans never relinquished the lead in the third set. Edinboro held its final lead of the match at 4-3 in the fourth set.
Both Delaney and Freund were honored prior to the match for their contributions to the program.
The Vulcans will wrap up the regular season next weekend with a pair of road matches in Erie, Pa. Cal U begins its final week at Mercyhurst on Friday, Nov. 15. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
