Women's Soccer blanks Mercyhurst, 3-0

ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 2) – The No. 19 Vulcans received goals from three different players on Wednesday afternoon and extended their winning streak to six games with a 3-0 victory at Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 6-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in league action. The Vulcans have recorded five-consecutive shutouts and out-scored their opponents by a 24-2 margin during their six-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Lakers drop to 4-4-1 this season with a 3-4-1 record in conference play.

The Vulcans scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute when junior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) scored her third goal of the year with assists from sophomore Marissa Neifert (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary). Hogan has now scored a goal in three-consecutive games and has registered 12 points during the team's current win streak. Cal U added to the lead just before halftime when junior Nicole Mayers (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) posted the first goal of her career off a feed from senior Stephanie Thompson (Queensville, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) at the 43:16-mark. Cal U added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Gray scored an unassisted goal.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) earned her 13th career shutout, making three saves on Wednesday. The Vulcans held a dominating 27-4 advantage in shots and finished with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it hosts No. 25 Gannon at 6 p.m.
