KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 9 Vulcans posted their ninth shutout victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Kutztown Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The victory extends the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team winning streak to 11 games and improves the team to 11-1 in conference play and 11-2-1 overall. Meanwhile, the loss drops the Golden Bears to 8-5 overall, all in league play.
The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the game when sophomore
Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School) scored an unassisted goal.
Cal U tacked on another goal less than three minutes later when senior
Stephanie Thompson (Queensville, Ontario/Huron Heights Scondary) redirected a free kick from junior
Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) into the back of the net to give the Vulcans a 2-0 lead.
Kutztown's best opportunity to score came late in the game in the 88th minute on a penalty kick, but freshman
Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) preserved the shutout with a save.

Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) combined for the shutout, as each made one save in the win.
Neither team generated many shots on goal, as Kutztown out-shot Cal U 5-to-4. The Vulcans held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Cal U is back in action Friday, Oct. 25, when it hosts rival West Chester. Kick off for the match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
