Volleyball earns wins in crossover play

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Vulcans cruised to a pair of 3-0 wins in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover play over East Stroudsburg and Cheyney Saturday at the Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team (20-4, 13-0 PSAC) started the day with a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-13, 25-15) over host East Stroudsburg before it concluded crossover play with a 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-14, 25-22) over Cheyney to extend its winning streak to nine matches.
 
Senior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) led the team with eight kills and four digs in the win over East Stroudsburg. Junior Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) paced Delaney with seven kills and six digs.
 
Senior Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) led both the offense and defense efforts with team-highs of 18 assists and nine digs. Freshman Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) also chipped in 11 assists in the win.
 
Junior Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) had a team-high nine kills and seven digs in the victory over Cheyney.

A trio of freshman helped lead the Vulcans with Destiny Tucker (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) and Kayla Smith (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) each setting season highs of seven kills, while Scurpa guided the offense with a season-high 39 assists and added seven digs in the win.
 
Cal U is back in action Friday, Oct., 25 when it hosts defending-PSAC Champion Gannon at 7 p.m.
