Cal U clipped by Gannon in overtime, 3-2

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 19) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team lost to Gannon, 3-2, in overtime in a conference match Saturday night at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
 
The loss drops the Vulcans to 5-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights improve to 5-5 in league play and 6-8 overall.
 
Cal U scored in the first 10 minutes of the game on a goal from junior Kendall Herring (Washington, D.C./International School of Latvia). Herring took a pass from classmate Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) and put it in the back of the net to give the Vulcans a 1-0 lead.
 
In the 74th-minute Gannon tied the game at 1-1, but Cal U quickly countered with a goal from freshman Elliot Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) 32 seconds later to put the Vulcans back on top, 2-1.
 
With less that two minutes remaining in regulation, Gannon evened the score to send the match into overtime. The Golden Knights tallied the game-winning goal seven minutes into the extra session to pick up the win.
 
Cal U was out-shot 12-10, but held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Vulcans return to action Friday, Oct. 25, when they host West Chester. Kick off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
