Men's Soccer defeated by Mercyhurst, 4-0

ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team was knocked off by Mercyhurst, 4-0, Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
 
The loss drops the Vulcans to 5-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Lakers improve their PSAC-best record to 7-1 and 10-3 overall this season.
 
Already leading 1-0, Mercyhurst scored to extend its lead in the 37th minute and tacked on another less than three minutes later to take a 3-0 lead into the half. Cal U was unable to recover as the Lakers added another goal to extend their lead to 4-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the match and held on to shutout the Vulcans.
 
Mercyhurst out-shot Cal U only by an 18-11 margin, however only three Vulcan shots were on goal and the Lakers put half of their shots on net.
 
Senior Alex Heston (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) played the second half in relief and made four saves and allowed one goal in the loss.
 
Cal U will return to action with a four-game home stand, beginning with a match on Saturday, Oct. 19 against Gannon at 7 p.m.
