FINDLAY, Ohio (Sept. 8) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team managed a split while playing at the Findlay Invitational on Saturday, suffering a 3-1 loss against Wayne State (Mich.) before claiming a 3-0 sweep over Urbana (Ohio).
With the split, the Vulcans move to 6-2 overall after playing a pair of weekend invitationals.
Against Wayne State, Cal U managed to win the third set before falling by a 3-1 count (25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17). Senior middle hitter
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team with 12 kills on a .455 hitting percentage and registered eight blocks in the loss. Classmate
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) finished with 10 kills and eight digs, while fellow senior
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added nine kills and five blocks against the Warriors.

Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) paced the defensive effort with 13 digs, while juniors
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) and
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) each finished with 10 digs. Freund also recorded a double-double by directing the offense with 35 assists.
In their last match of the tournament, the Vulcans registered a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) versus Urbana. Harris led the team with 15 kills and sophomore
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with nine kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Freund reached the 40-assist mark for the second time this season, recording 44 assists.
Miller collected 10 digs, while Harris and redshirt freshman
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) each finished with nine digs.
Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when it hosts West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
