CALIFORNIA (Sept. 7) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team allowed three goals in the first period on Friday night before suffering a 4-1 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan at the Phillipsburg Complex.
With their third-straight loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-3 overall; meanwhile, the Bobcats improve to 1-1 this year.
WVWC scored the first goal of the game in the 26th minute when senior Daniel Smee scored on a penalty kick after Cal U was whistled for a handball in the goal area. Less than two minutes later, senior
Nemanja Visekruna (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) was issued a red card and forced the Vulcans to play the remainder of the game down one player. The Bobcats added to their lead at the 38:14-mark when freshman Alaxandre Zidani scored off a pair of assists before senior Robert Brenton registered a goal in the final minute before halftime.
Cal U was forced to play the final 20 minutes of the game down two players after sophomore
Chris Hunkele (Hampton, Pa./Hampton) was also issued a red card. WVWC tallied its final goal of the game in the 85th minute before sophomore
Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) scored his first career goal off a penalty kick at the 87:06-mark.

Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) suffered the loss after allowing three goals on seven shots in the first period. Classmate
Mitch Mack (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), a transfer from St. Bonaventure, played in the second half and recorded two saves in his first action of the year. WVWC sophomore Derek Ayers finished with four saves to earn the win.
Cal U returns to action on Sept. 15 when it hosts Alderson-Broaddus at 2:30 p.m.
