Cal U wins in final seconds of OT, 2-1

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Sept. 28) – Sophomore Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) scored the game-winning goal with just 47 seconds left in the second overtime, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 6-2 this season with a 3-1 mark in league action. Cal U also extended its unbeaten streak against Slippery Rock to seven games, posting a 5-0-2 record since 2009. Meanwhile, The Rock falls to 6-2 overall with a 3-2 record in conference play.

Slippery Rock took the lead in the 14th minute when Lucy Hannon scored her fifth goal of the year. The Vulcans then tied the game at the 31:47-mark when sophomore Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) scored her first goal of the year with an assist from classmate Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), her ninth of the season.

Following a scoreless second period, the two teams combined for three shots (none on goal) in the first overtime. The Rock then posted four shots on goal in the second overtime before Henderson scored after dribbling through traffic with an assist from sophomore Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford).

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) registered seven saves on Friday, including four in the second overtime. Rock junior Dana O'Neill collected three saves in the loss.

The Vulcans continue their conference road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to face Lock Haven at 6:30 p.m.
