Women's Soccer falls at West Chester, 2-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 22) – In a meeting of perennial conference and regional powers, the No. 20 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at No. 7 West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 5-2 this season with a 3-1 mark in league action. It also marked the first regular-season loss to a PSAC team by Cal U since October 2010 (West Chester), snapping a 20-game unbeaten streak (18-0-2). Meanwhile, the Golden Rams remain undefeated at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

West Chester took a 1-0 lead late in the first period when sophomore Carly Yost scored at the 44:11-mark. The Golden Rams added to their lead in the 55th minute before the Vulcans scored in the 82nd minute when sophomore Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School) scored her fourth goal of the year off an assist from redshirt freshman Danielle Macleary (Wilmington, Del./St. Marks).

Sophomore Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) registered a career-high 10 saves while facing 15 shots on Saturday. West Chester's Shannon Fedyk earned the win after making eight saves.

Cal U returns to action on Monday, Sept. 24, when it hosts Shepherd in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
