Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and junior
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) combined for 32 assists and 20 digs on Saturday afternoon, as the Vulcans collected a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-18, 25-13) at West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 13-2 this season with a 3-0 mark in league play. Meanwhile, West Chester stands at 9-9 overall behind a 0-4 record in conference action.
Fromknecht posted 20 assists and nine digs, along with seven kills, against the Golden Rams. Freund finished with her team-best sixth double-double of the year, tallying 12 assists and 11 digs on Saturday. Senior
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team with 11 kills on a .429 hitting percentage, while classmates
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and
Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) posted eight and seven kills, respectively.
Junior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) paced four players with double-digit digs, collecting 17 at West Chester. Almeida added 14 digs, while redshirt freshman
Renee Helmer (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) totaled a career-high 11 digs.
The Vulcans open divisional play next weekend, beginning with a match at Gannon on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
