CALIFORNIA (Sept. 2) – The No. 16 California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in its home-opener against Shepherd on Sunday evening while hosting its annual Dunlevy Day.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-1 this season. Meanwhile the Rams improve to 1-0-1 this year.
Shepherd tallied the only goal of the game at the 4:47-mark when junior Kevin Doyle scored off a pair of assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) finished with three saves in the loss, while Shepherd freshman Alex Aleshire recorded four saves in the shutout.
In the loss, Cal U finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and held a sizeable 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Dunlevy group was and remains instrumental in promoting soccer of all levels in the Mon-Valley, including assisting in the founding of the Cal U soccer program. Of note, head coach Dennis Laskey is a native of Dunlevy, Pa.
The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, when they travel to face Wheeling Jesuit at 7 p.m.
