Vulcans claim shutout over A-B, 2-0

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 15) – Junior Christopher Karns (Mars, Pa./Mars) and senior Paul Silvestrone (Vaughan, Ontario/Cardinal Center) each scored goals on Saturday afternoon, as the Vulcans snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory against Alderson-Broaddus at the Phillipsburg Complex.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 2-3 overall. Meanwhile, A-B falls to 1-5 this season.

Karns tallied his first goal of the season in the 25th minute off an assist from sophomore Kevin Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley). Following halftime, the Vulcans added to their lead at the 57:59-mark when Silvestrone collected an unassisted goal.

Sophomore Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded the shutout after making three saves on Saturday. Battlers' goalkeepr Matt Robbins finished with nine saves in the loss.

Cal U opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Wednesday, Sept. 19, when it hosts defending-league champion Millersville at 3:30 p.m.
