Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) each posted 20-dig performances on Friday night, as the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team registered a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-20, 25-19) against Wilmington (Del.) on the first day of the Bentley Invitational.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 8-2 overall with a 7-2 mark in tournament play this season. Meanwhile, the Wildcats fall to 10-3 this year.
Almeida set a career high with 22 digs on Friday, while Delaney collected 20 digs and two service aces. Sophomore
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and senior
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) totaled 13 and 11 digs, respectively, against Wilmington. Freund also led the team with 20 assists to finish with her fourth assist/dig double-double of the season.
Fromknecht registered her second triple-double of the year, tying her season high with a team-high 11 kills on a .550 hitting percentage and adding 15 assists. Fellow senior
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) finished with 10 kills and nine digs in the sweep, while classmate
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) posted seven kills on a .636 hitting percentage.
Cal U continues play at the Bentley Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 15, when it faces the host Falcons and Georgian Court (N.J.).
