WINTER PARK, Fla. (Aug. 31) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team opened the season on Friday with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Rollins (Fla.) Invitational, including a sweep over the No. 22 and host Tars.
With the wins, the Vulcans open the year at 2-0 under second-year head coach

Cal U opened play on Friday morning with a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) against Pace (N.Y.). Senior
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) led the team with 16 kills on 30 attempts for a team-best .500 hitting percentage. Classmates
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) finished with seven and six kills, respectively, against the Setters.
Harris and sophomore
Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) both tallied a team-high 10 digs, while junior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) collected nine digs. Junior
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and Fromknecht directed the offense with 18 and 14 assists, respectively.
Against Rollins on Friday night, the Vulcans registered a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-17). Harris again led the team with nine kills on 23 attempts and also registered a team-best 12 digs. Muzy finished with eight kills and three blocks against the Tars, while Fromknecht tallied four kills, 12 assists, six digs and four blocks (one solo) in the sweep. Delaney added nine digs and three service aces on Friday night.
Cal U resumes play at the Rollins Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 1, when it faces Eckerd (Fla.) and Minnesota State-Moorehead, beginning at 11 a.m.
