Women's Soccer shutouts Mansfield, 5-0

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (Oct.6) – Sophomore Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) posted her third multiple-assist game of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 21 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a 5-0 shutout over Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the victory, Cal U improves to 9-2-1 overall with a 6-1-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers fall to 2-8-1 on the season with a 0-7-1 conference record.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead into the break after sophomore Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) scored her eighth goal of the season in the 22nd minute off an assist by classmate Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford).

Following the break, sophomore Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) scored her second goal of the season at the 54:08-mark off a feed from Hogan. Freshman Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School) recorded her sixth goal of the year at the 55:12-mark off of another Hogan assist. With the assist, Hogan moved into a tie with Kristie Strunk (1990-91) for fourth place in school history with 24 career assists. Freshman Marissa Neifert (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) scored her first career goal at the 65:41-mark off an assist from classmate Kara Novotny (Irwin, Pa. / Penn-Trafford). The duo would connect again at the 76:53-mark with Niefert assisting of Novotny's first career goal.

Sophomore Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) posted one save and combined with redshirt freshman Kristin Baierbach (South Park, Pa./South Park) to record the shutout, while Mansfield goalkeeper Alana Krieger made nine saves in the losing effort.

Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9, when it hosts Bloomsburg at 4:30 p.m.
