Volleyball sweeps Alderson-Broaddus, 3-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 23) – Three players posted double-digit digs on Tuesday night, as the Vulcans posted a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-20, 25-20) against Alderson-Broaddus in non-conference play at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 22-5 overall. The Vulcans have won all three matches against West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) schools this season. Meanwhile, Alderson-Broaddus falls to 13-14 this season.

Junior Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the year, finishing with 33 assists and a team-high 13 digs. Senior Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) added six kills and 12 digs on Tuesday and sophomore Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) tied her career high with 11 digs.

Junior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) led the offense with 13 kills and senior Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) posted 10 kills while hitting at a .429 clip. Freshman Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) finished with seven kills on nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage in the sweep.

The Vulcans return to divisional play with two home matches this weekend, beginning on Friday, Oct. 26, against Edinboro at 7 p.m.
