CALIFORNIA (Oct. 23) – Sophomore
Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute on Tuesday afternoon, as the Vulcans earned a 1-0 in-region win against District of Columbia at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 10-6-1 overall. The Vulcans were ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Atlantic Region poll, which was released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Firebirds fall to 5-8-2 this season.
Kyei tallied his sixth goal of the season, and his second game-winning goal, off a direct kick from just outside the box at the 10:52-mark.
Sophomore
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded the shutout, finishing with four saves in his first action since Sept. 29. UDC graduate student Omar Gonzalez posted three saves in the losing effort.
The Vulcans close the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, when they travel to face Shippensburg at 3 p.m.
Cal U has already secured a berth in next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament; however, their seed and opponent is yet to be determined.
