CALIFORNIA (Oct. 19) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered its first loss in nearly a month on Friday night, falling 1-0 to No. 22 Mercyhurst on Senior Night at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 9-6-1 overall with a 4-3-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Lakers improve to 9-5-1 this season and move into a tie for first place in the league standings with a 5-2 conference record.
After a scoreless first half, Mercyhurst scored the only goal of the game late in the second period when Fernando Martinez scored his fifth goal of the year at the 85:03-mark.
Junior goalkeeper
Alex Heston (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) finished with two saves while making his second start of the year. Lakers' senior Diego Gustin recorded his eighth shutout of the season after posting four saves.
Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when it hosts District of Columbia in non-conference play at 3 p.m.
