No. 13 Vulcans fall at Gannon, 3-0

ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The No. 13 Vulcans had their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon, as they suffered a 3-0 loss at Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team falls to 11-3-1 overall with an 8-2-1 mark in league action. The Vulcans were shutout for just the fourth time in the last two years. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights improve 10-3-1 this season behind a 7-3-1 record in conference play.

Gannon took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute on a goal by Michelle Genetin following a throw-in from midfield. The Golden Knights added to their lead at the 50:29-mark when Mani Brueckner scored her ninth goal of the year following a foul call. Gannon added an insurance goal from Sammy Valloud in the 85th minute to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) made three saves while facing 17 shots in the loss. Golden Knights' Maggie Brinkman recorded the shutout after making seven saves on Tuesday.

The Vulcans continue league play on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they host Mercyhurst at 7 p.m.
