No. 3 Women's Soccer blanks Gannon, 4-0

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 28) – Three different players scored goals on Wednesday afternoon to help the No. 3 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team extend its unbeaten streak with a 4-0 win against Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the new Soccer Facility.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 6-0-1 overall with a 4-0-1 mark in conference play after posting their sixth shutout of the season. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights drop to 4-3-2 this season and 2-3-2 in league action.

Cal U took an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver). The Vulcans expanded their lead before halftime at the 31:38-mark when junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) tallied an unassisted goal.

Work added her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 69th minute off a feed from senior Sara Di Benedetto (Maple, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic). Cal U stretched its lead to 4-0 at the 75:32-mark when sophomore Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) recorded her first goal of the year with an assist from freshman Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford).

Senior Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) finished with seven saves on Wednesday to post her third shutout of the season. The Golden Knights' Maggie Brinkman registered 10 saves while playing all 90 minutes in the loss.

The Vulcans finished with a significant 31-18 advantage in shots and posted a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when it faces Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa., at 4 p.m.
