Work posts hat trick in win over ESU, 5-0

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 24) – Junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) registered her second hat trick of the season on Saturday morning, as the No. 2 Vulcans posted a 5-0 victory over East Stroudsburg at the new Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 5-0-1 overall with a 3-0-1 record in league play. The Vulcans have now registered five shutouts this season and have out-scored their opponents by a 16-1 margin. Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg falls to 4-4-1 this year and 1-4-1 in conference action.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead into the break after senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored her fifth goal of the season in the 34th minute off an assist from Work.

Following the break, Work scored her first goal of the game at the 50:59-mark off a feed from sophomore Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown). The duo connected on another goal in the 57th minute before freshman Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) registered a goal at the 67:17-mark off a pass from senior Kayla Klimasko (Mississauga, Ontario/Woodlands Secondary). Work completed the hat trick in the 81st minute when she posted her team-leading seventh goal of the season, which is already a career high, off an assist from senior Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax).

Senior Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) posted three saves in 76-plus minutes of action to earn her 40th career victory on Saturday. ESU goalkeeper Brittain Wagner made 13 saves in 57-plus minutes after starter Melissa Myers was ejected after receiving a red card in the 34th minute.

Cal U out-shot ESU by staggering 30-5 margin after attempting 24 shots in the second half, while both teams finished with three corner kicks.
