Volleyball rolls past IUP, 3-0

INDIANA, Pa. (Sept. 20) – Junior middle hitter Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) posted 12 kills on Tuesday night to help lift the Vulcans to a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-20, 25-17) over IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team extended its win streak to five matches to improve to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, IUP lost its third-straight match to fall to 7-6 this season with a 1-3 mark in league action.

Franz finished with a match-high 12 kills on a .391 hitting percentage and collected three blocks, while junior Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) and freshman Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) each added eight kills against the Crimson Hawks. Junior Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and sophomore Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) recorded 22 and 12 assists, respectively, in the win.

Muzy paced the defensive effort on Tuesday with 12 digs, while freshman Tabitha Maurer (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Harris collected 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Vulcans continue league play on Friday, Sept. 23, when they host Edinboro at Hamer Hall, starting at 7 p.m.
