CALIFORNIA (Sept. 16) – In a meeting of two NCAA Tournament teams from last season, the No. 4 Vulcans claimed a 1-0 win on Friday afternoon against Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at the new Soccer Facility.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play. The Vulcans, who have registered shutouts in all three games this year, also extended their unbeaten streak against The Rock to five games. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock drops to 2-1-1 this year with a 0-1-1 mark in conference action.

After a scoreless first period despite 18 combined shot attempts, the Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute when senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown).

Senior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) posted her second shutout of the season after making six saves on Friday. The Rock's Lisa Rodgers tallied nine saves in the loss, including a save on a penalty kick by junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) in the 34th minute.

Cal U finished the game with a 23-9 advantage in shots after allowing Slippery Rock only one shot attempt in the second period. The Vulcans also maintained an 8-2 edge in corner kicks in the victory.

The Vulcans continue PSAC play tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17, when they host Lock Haven at the Soccer Facility. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start and live stats will be available by clicking here.
