Thomas Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) and junior defensive back
Rontez Miles (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) were recently named Associated Press (AP) Little All-Americans.
Miles was selected a First-Team All-American, while Mayo received Second-Team All-America honors. The AP All-America Teams are comprised of players from NCAA Division II and III and the NAIA.
Miles posted a career year in 2011, finishing with 71 tackles (50 solo) and leading the team with five interceptions. He also posted 6.0 tackles for loss (TFL), 13 passes defended, eight pass break-ups and two blocked kicks. Miles was also recently selected an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American and was named the Daktronics Super Region One and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Player of the Year.
Mayo finished second in NCAA Division II this year with a career-high 16 receiving touchdowns and ranked fourth in the country with 1,359 receiving yards. He concluded his career ranked 11th all-time in NCAA Division II history with over 4,000 receiving yards. Mayo was previously named a Daktronics First-Team All-American after posting his third-consecutive 1,000-yard season.
Cal U has had at least one selection on the AP All-America Teams in six of the last seven years. The Vulcans were the only team in the PSAC to feature multiple AP All-Americans this season.
